Though I haveWatched bits of all three telenovelas, SinSenos No Hay Paraiso, in particular, has really caught my attention. For the past few months, she has been watching the three nighttimeTelenovelas broadcasted on Telemundo, SilvanaI moved back home this semester, living in the same house as my mom has led meTo have a nightly exposure to the telenovelas she is watching. But don’t fret! In an effort to better reach its Spanish-speaking audience, Netflix has a ton of amazing telenovelas from the past two decades in its library.
LatinAmerican communities, especially in countries like Colombia with its cocaineProduction, deal with the drug epidemics. Catalina’s obsession withObtaining large breasts is also a common desire of many people in Latin AmericaWho are dreaming of achieving the definition of beauty that their society usesWith an artificial definition of beauty ,Sin Senos No Hay Paraiso incorporates many aspects of the drug world. This is a common belief in many Latin American countries, especiallyCountries like Colombia, Venezuela, and Brazil. Catalina believes, that byGetting the augmentation, she will be able to achieve her dream of being theSenos No Hay Paraiso represents the definition of beauty as having aPerfect body, with large breasts, a round bottom, a flat stomach, and tonesLegs. She dreams with getting a breastAugmentation, just like all her friends have. Catalina is tormented by theSmall size of breasts, since the other characters in the telenovela constantlyDefine and marginalize her due to their size.

The infatuation with luxury promoted by the deep desire to getOut of poverty leads young people to drop out of school. She suffers at the idea of themSuffering and staying in poverty for the rest of their lives. Hilda cannot come to terms with the decisionOf her children to give up an education. I understand that pageants are very popular among these countries, but how can a culture living from paycheck to paycheck be so engulfed with plastic surgery? This has always been so intersting to me. What continues to baffle me is how countries such as Colombia and Venezuela, with large lower middle classes and increasing poverty, can afford to be so obsessed with appearances and superficiality. Even Yesica acknowledges the uncertified abilities ofThis man by telling Catalina that she does not have the follow the post-abortionI really enjoyed this extremely thorough description of all the social issues this particular telenovela touched on in only ten episodes. This sceneRepresents the lack of access to safe abortion clinics in many communities.This is a problem that is aggravated in developing countries with poorCommunities, such as Colombia, where women do not have the resources they needTo make safe choices.
You made me want to watch it on Netflix this Christmas break! Great job. I can see how this argument can be made for other telenovelas such as La Reina del Sur but definitely not this one. It is describing the negative side effects of drug cartels in Latin America.
